Helena Hettema
Written in 1997 in London. I
was sitting on Brighton Beach, a very unusual setting
with big round stones, a palle sun and a very mild sea
in front of me.Not like South Africa where everything
is in excess ...too hot, too strong, too wild
... And therefore home.
The eclipse really happened but on
another day. I sang the song for the first time
at a concert given in South Africa House in London and
was proud to be South African.
She wore the colour of the sky
on her fingertips
The sun was in her soul, she knew she
was aSpirit free that nothing can be owned
She knew she had
to wander far,
Leave the ones she
loved,
She knew she had
to follow her dream
So she could one
day return home
Chorus:
She was a girl with a divided
heart
Like the light and the dark, a divided
heart
Between two continents and somewhere far
her home
But where it really lay was deep within
her soul
But where it really lay deep was deep
in her soul
She gazed at the eclipse of the
moon
she walked to her own beat, on the
edge of the world, and sang her simple
tune
she listened to the message in the wild,
wild wind
And let the sea spirit take her to his
home
